When I first started trying to earn money online, I tried doing affiliate marketing via Adwords and ClickBank. I did everything that I was told to do, spend money to buy a domain to cloak the affiliate link, used Word Tracker to research profitable keywords, and even spend hours to spy on what my competition is doing.
Finally, my first ever Adwords campaign was set up and I was ecstatically excited. Once the campaign started, I immediately received traffic. After wasting the next 2 months trying and a few hundred dollars on advertising, I noticed that I was doing something REALLY wrong.
Why should I go with the flow and promote high gravity products, when the competition is going to be high?
Although such product may have a high conversion rate, its popularity would have resulted in a high Adwords advertising cost, which causes many of the campaign to be unprofitable.
What if I tried something radically different?
I thought to myself.
What if I promote a much less popular Clickbank product?
POP! Immediately, I went to Page 10 of the clickbank marketplace. The place where ‘obscure products’ are selling at 16 gravity, something that you thought nobody would ever be interested in buying.
So what did I do? I set up a 5 Adgroup adwords campaign, use the main keywords and prayed for the clicks to come in.
After 1 day, I was amazed that I had made 3 sales! Right then, I knew I was in to something.
The solution I found, was to find smaller niches on Clickbank! World of WarCraft guidebooks, Marine bootcamp guides, How to make your parrot talk, etc. Smaller, more obscure niches that have much lesser competition but sometimes may convert at a much, much better rate!
There are a few Clickbank affiliate programs that have continued to produce incredible products for everyday marketers to promote and make alots of money with. But due to our short-sightedness, we have failed to take notice of it.
I have learnt that popular products have usually past their affiliate saturation point and its normally really difficult to break into the market. If you ever want to try Adwords marketing, take my advice, try promoting a less popular product that comes from a smaller niche.

After doing a survey with my email list from my other website, I have come up with a list of 4 mistakes/ misconceptions that people have when they are trying to earn money online.

1) Hoping that a part-time mentality can yield Full-time result
After being exposed to tons of ‘get rich quick’ schemes on the net, many people think that earning money online is easy money and they are made to think that by spending a small amount of time and effort, they are able to achieve the phenomenal results of real internet marketing gurus such as Alvin Pang, or Mike Filasome who are earning thousands of passive income a month.
Unknown to many, this internet marketing gurus are able to achieve the results that they achieve today, not because they are hold some great ‘Internet Marketing Secret’ or because they have hopped onto the internet at the ‘correct timing’. The reasons why this people are successful is because they has put in lots of sacrifice and long hours of hardwork into building their internet business.
Earning money online is the same as earning money anywhere else. In order to be rich and successful, you have to be willing to put in the sweat and tears at the initial part, so that you would be able to enjoy the sweet benefits at the end of the day. If you think that you are able to earn lots of money online by putting in a little effort, you would definitely be in for a rude awakening. If you have a mindset just set on just trying out, you would not give your 100% into building your online business as you are not determined to make it work. Instead, you would find excuses when you are faced with a problem instead of finding a solution to solve the problem.
It is better to give 100% of your effort for 6months, then to give 20% of your effort for 5years. Do not just try, you have set your mind to it! Set a time frame for yourself, and put your 100% into your online business. Even if you fail succeed in earning money online after this time frame, you know that you have done your best and you have nothing to regret.
After which, you can then evaluate the reasons why you fail, and change the bad parts while keeping the good parts. By constantly giving your 100% and tweaking your methods, you would eventually start earning money online.
There you have it, the 4 biggest mistakes that people make when they are trying to earn money online. Remember, in order to become truly successful in earning money online, you would have to be willing to put in lots of hardwork and patience before you start seeing positive results.
